Jennifer's Story: Setting Simple Goals for a Happy Life

Jennifer Chapman had struggled with her weight for most of her life — starting as early as seventh grade. At her highest, she weighed 239 pounds. Unhappy with her life and her appearance, Jennifer knew she needed to make a change.

In 2014, Jennifer's mom bought a Bowflex® TreadClimber® and encouraged her to give it a try. After losing just five pounds, she was hooked. Jennifer started making small changes in her life — incorporating exercise and altering her diet. In as little as 12 months, Jennifer had lost 103 pounds. She was down to a size four and was feeling better than ever.

What are the biggest changes you've seen in your life?

Jennifer: "The biggest change would just be that I'm happy. I bought myself an entire new wardrobe. My family life has also changed. I actually want to go out and walk around with my son and take him to the playground. I feel so good about myself. I'm just happy and spend more time with my family."

What advice would you give to someone who is just starting out?

"Even if you don't have the TreadClimber, little changes will have big results. For example, eat chicken instead of a burger. You have to think about what you really want and just go for it. That was my big thing — setting little goals. If I could lose 20 pounds, then I could lose 20 more. I didn't want to be the same person that I was."

What does fitness mean to you?

"To me, fitness means being healthy. Try to eat right and get exercise, even if that means just walking outside or counting steps inside of your house. I'm finally at a place where I'm happy. I'm still a work-in-progress, but from where I started two years ago, I'm happy. People keep telling me that I inspire them. It's so amazing that I'm inspiring other people to make their lifestyle a little healthier. That's a great thing to come out of this — just one more person losing weight because of me."
