Watermelon Mojito Mocktail

If summer had a flavor, it’d taste like watermelon. It’s refreshing, full of hydration, and naturally sweet – but not overbearingly so. And since watermelon is about 90% water, it juices easily without much waste, ensuring you reap all the rewards of this delicious, healthy fruit. From mojitos to margaritas and everything in between, watermelon juice makes for a great base to any summer cocktail.

I know what you’re thinking, though, “Cocktails? Don’t tempt me. I cut out alcohol.” Worry not, my sweet melon – this watermelon mojito mocktail contains zero alcohol and no added sugar. Zilch, nada, nothing. Cheers to that!

Watermelon Mojito Mocktail

Total time: 15 minutes

A glass filled with watermelon mojito mocktail. Garnished with mint and watermelon on a table at the coast.

Ingredients

  • ½ seedless watermelon
  • Two limes, juiced
  • Two mint leaves per glass
  • Crushed ice
  • Seltzer or club soda

To Get The Goods

  1. Add the half watermelon (no rind, of course) to a blender and blend until liquefied. I’ve found the easiest way is to cut a seedless watermelon in half, then scoop out the inside and load the blender until it’s full, then blend in batches. It usually takes about 2-3 rounds to blend the entire half watermelon.
  2. Once blended, pour into a pitcher. If you blend long enough, it should be entirely liquid. But if there’s some pulp and you want to remove it, pour the juice over a fine mesh strainer as-needed (I usually skip this).
  3. Add the lime juice to the watermelon juice and stir thoroughly.
  4. When ready to serve, muddle two mint leaves in each glass. It might help to add a squeeze of lime juice to help the muddling process.
  5. Add ice and fill with watermelon-lime juice until the glass is half full. Top off with seltzer (and a pretty little mint and watermelon garnish, if you’re fancy like that).

This mocktail can become a cocktail, too – so if you’re serving at a party, or want a little pep in your step, add a splash of rum and you’re good to go. Kick back, relax, and enjoy.
