Katrina's Story: Finding the Perfect Fitness Coach

Katrina Baker, 45, was no stranger to the struggles of losing weight after motherhood. Following the birth of her daughter, the single mother struggled to even feel comfortable in a pair of shorts. As Katrina explained, clothing became a way to camouflage the mounting self-doubt after age 40. The Conyngham, Pa., native knew it was time to make a change, but a busy schedule and motherhood made it challenging.

Finding a workout that gave Katrina time to spend with her seven-year-old daughter was essential. "I am continually motivated by my daughter — she is my coach. She encourages me to work through any time that I may feel discouraged," explained Katrina. There is no doubt that family — especially children — can be a key fitness motivator.

In addition, following tarsal tunnel surgery Katrina needed a low-impact workout that was easy on her body. Tarsal tunnel syndrome is a painful condition that affects the feet when the tibial nerve is compressed.

After seeing a commercial for the Bowflex® TreadClimber®, she decided to give it a try. By simply walking, Katrina lost more than 80 pounds, which helped her find more energy and a renewed outlook on life.

Since then, Katrina has made fitness a priority in her life. She now includes strength training and cardio — both indoor and outdoor — in her workout routine. Whether she's using her TreadClimber, riding her bike or running on trails, Katrina is dedicated to setting the best example for her daughter.

"I just love how much better I feel when I'm active. I'm motivated by my self-confidence and strive to maintain my fitness goals," Katrina said.

Katrina's advice to others just starting out? Set both large goals and small goals. She explains: "Make your goals attainable, and reward yourself with each goal attainment. Don't get frustrated by the number on the scale. Most of all, mix up your routines to avoid plateaus."
