Five Ways to Boost Your Self Confidence

It's natural to want to look and feel your best. However, it's easy to place too much emphasis on improving your body and completely forgetting about enhancing your mind. Self-confidence is an essential part of feeling great. In fact, people with high self-confidence tend to lead happier and healthier lives.

Looking for ways to boost your self-confidence? Here are five tips that can help:

  1. Leave Positive Notes for Yourself

Put sticky notes or images with positive messages on your mirror, fridge or any place you will see them regularly. Pick a message or phrase that makes you feel happy, strong and empowered, such as: "You can rule the world and your next workout." Make it a point to repeat them to yourself on a daily basis.

  2. Remove Negative Influences

Is one thing in your life really bringing you down? Maybe it's work or even a specific person. Identify things that make you feel less than awesome and take steps to reduce your time spent with these negative influences. Being mindful about what is causing your stress and unhappiness can help you free up your time for things that make you feel good about yourself.

  3. Think Big

If you have a presentation or event coming up that has you feeling anxious, try paying close attention to your body language. Are you crossing your arms and legs, effectively making yourself smaller? According to a famous Ted Talk from 2012, self-confidence can be impacted by your body language. Try striking a power pose in the bathroom before an interview or in your car before an important event. You'll quickly see how much of a difference it can make in your poise and performance.

  4. Practice Self-Care

Making your physical, emotional and social health a priority is important to ensuring you put your most confident foot forward. Indulge in your favorite hobby, spend extra time getting ready for the day, or even treat yourself to a whole day of relaxation to put some pep back in your step. Remember that self-care is not selfish.

  5. Take a Moment to Reflect

Think back on what you have already accomplished and feel proud. Did you take an extra lap around the block or fit in all your workouts this week? Then celebrate! Did you have a great day at work or make a healthy, delicious dinner? Sounds like a reason to party! Feeling proud of things you have already done is important to feeling good every day. Life isn't perfect and allowing yourself to enjoy small victories instead of dwelling on past mistakes is key to feeling confident enough to tackle the big challenges.
