Fit Tip Thursday: Best Exercises for Your Body

While all exercise is beneficial, some workouts are indeed “better” from a purely physiological standpoint. For example, multi-joint exercises, like squats and push-ups, work multiple muscle groups at the same time, whereas a bicep curl targets only the biceps muscle. So, when you want to maximize your workout, hitting as many muscles in the shortest amount of time is the way to go.

When it comes to workout program design, combining strength training and cardiovascular exercise is another great way to maximize your time. A simple way to do this is to engage in circuit training - performing strength moves with little-to-no rest in between exercises. This constant movement keeps your heart rate elevated, adding an additional cardiovascular component to your workout. And, you'll burn calories as you build valuable lean muscle.

To have the best body possible, you want to engage in full-body workouts: targeting the lower body, upper body and core. When designing a great circuit routine, I like to do these three, and then add in a short cardio interval – repeating these four exercises for the duration of the workout.

So, what are the three simple “secrets” to creating one of the most-effective workouts possible? Multi-joint exercises, circuit-style full-body strength training and short cardio interval.

Here are four of my favorite go-to full body exercises that target your body from head-to-toe:
